Set up the TV Guide
Understand playlist ownership, compatible XMLTV feeds, loading modes and guide logos.
Options depend on your plan, profile, installed build and provider. Understand access. Screenshots use fictional demonstration data; a preview layout can differ slightly from a public build.
#Select the playlist first
Each playlist has its own guide configuration. Open Settings → Library & content → Playlist → TV Guide, then choose the playlist at the top. Always do this before adding links, changing loading mode, choosing days or applying logos.
- Choose the intended playlist in the TV Guide dialog.
- Review its provider guide and external guide links. Toggle only the sources you want to use.
- Use + Add a guide link for a compatible XMLTV feed; save the full link privately. Edit corrects it and the remove button deletes that external link.
- Restart this playlist’s guide after a source or loading-policy change, then check several channels.
A general public guide is not automatically compatible with your provider. The feed’s channel identifiers must match, or channels must be assigned manually. Matching names alone are not a reliable guarantee.
#Smart loading versus Full loading
Smart prioritises a near-term three-hour window before completing the remaining selected days quietly in the background. Full reads the selected day window without that smart first-pass policy. “Three hours ready” is a first-pass state in Smart, not the total future coverage.
- Select the playlist, then choose Loading mode.
- Choose Smart for earlier access to near-term listings, or Full for the conventional full-window import.
- Set Days to download: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 or 14 days. A source cannot supply days it does not publish.
- Restart that playlist’s guide and inspect the status with its playlist name.
Visible hours in Appearance only changes how much time fits across the screen. It does not control downloaded days or switch Smart to Full.
#Refresh interval and multiple playlists
When it runs low is the automatic interval. Fixed choices are every 1, 3, 6, 12 or 24 hours. Frequent downloads are not always fresher if the source has not changed. Each playlist keeps its own guide choices. A manual playlist-and-guide refresh interrupts background guide work so the playlist can be refreshed before its guide starts again.
#Use guide logos for the correct source
Use guide logos everywhere applies guide artwork to channels belonging to the selected playlist. Choose All sources or one of that playlist’s feeds when asked. Back to provider logos restores provider artwork. These actions do not change movie or series posters. The Channel logos from the guide appearance option controls their display.
#Reminders for future programmes
For a programme still in the future, use its offered reminder action. Review the event and time before saving. Reminders appear with scheduled items and can be cancelled there. A reminder is not a recording and does not create replay video. Android notification/background restrictions can affect delivery.
#Lighter guide setup
On a small TV box, begin with Smart, one or two days, and only useful compatible feeds. Avoid duplicates. Let the first import finish before evaluating missing listings. Incorrect schedules may be mapping, timezone, feed or provider errors; device local time and timezone should be correct. Never compensate for an expired playlist by downloading more guide data.
#Reorder favourites in the Guide
Open the Favourites group, hold OK on a channel and choose Reorder. While moving, UP/DOWN changes its position. LEFT/RIGHT can move it to the ends of the list instead of moving the timeline. OK or BACK ends the move. Leave move mode before trying timeline/hold-LEFT shortcuts again.
#Custom guide and logo: two separate choices
Guide source searches stored guide channel entries and lets you narrow the search to a feed. Choosing a matching channel explicitly overrides automatic assignment; Automatic returns it to matching. Pick a logo uses the guide’s available channel images, while Provider logo restores the provider artwork. See the channel mapping tutorial for the full steps. Neither action uploads an arbitrary picture or changes a movie poster.
#Returning after an interrupted guide import
The app keeps committed guide data and useful import checkpoints. Reopening it should not require deleting playlists or clearing app data. Interrupted work can resume, while stale previous-day checkpoints are replaced so current listings can load again.
- Open the Guide and check current programmes across several channels.
- If current listings are missing, allow the automatic recovery check to run.
- If the guide still stays empty, use Settings → Library & content → Playlist → Retry guide download once and note the playlist named in the status.
- Send a diagnostic report if it repeats, including the time, playlist name and whether the app was closed during the previous import.
Days to download is the coverage window, not an interval between refreshes. Android can delay background jobs or stop them when a box is powered off. Previously imported listings can expire.
#Manual guide assignments survive refresh
A channel’s manually selected guide source is stored separately from imported playlist data. Refreshing that playlist can preserve the assignment when the channel can still be identified.
- Hold OK on the channel or programme and choose Guide source.
- Select the correct feed and guide channel, then check its current schedule.
- Choose Automatic in the same picker if you want normal matching again.
A removed or substantially changed provider channel may need a new assignment. Selecting a guide source and choosing a channel logo remain separate actions.
